School Uniforms: Health Classes

Posted by Spring & Autumn Martial Arts Monday, May 17, 2010

Health classes related to Qigong, Tai Chi, and Sitting Practices are very different from the high energy and aerobics classes generally offered. Because of this, the attire needs are also a bit different. Although I never require students and participants to wear a uniform, it is recommended not only for the comfort of everyone in the class, but also to ensure you are getting the most out of your training.

A Note About Tight Clothing

When it comes to training in these reflective and introspective practices, tight or restrictive clothes reduce your awareness to your body in many ways. But constantly having pressure on your skin on your full body, it creates a constant stimulation of all of your skin. In addition, wearing spandex, under armor, or other tight clothes can make others in class self-conscious. Giving your skin room to breathe is key to comfort, and loose fitting clothes allow blood & qi to flow naturally and unrestricted.

Health Class Uniforms (Qigong, Tai Chi for Health, Meditation, & Inner Alchemy)
The uniforms recommended are not the standard Mandarin Collar frog-button uniforms as you usually see. Instead, They have a v-neck shape to them, and are a blended material of the 35% cotton, and 65% polyester. These uniforms are light and loose fitting, and offer a great range of motions at both the hips and the shoulders. Also, these uniforms are handmade at the Wudang Mountains, and come in two colors.
Students in fitness and health programs are requested to wear the white front-button uniforms.
Students in Inner Alchemy and Daoyin/Qigong classes are requested to wear blue.

Pricing of uniforms is based on size, and it is recommended that you wash in cold water to preserve color, and tumble dry on low (or hang to dry) to prevent shrinking. The first time you wash a blue uniform, you may wish to was it alone and with a teaspoon of salt to help set the color and prevent future fading.
Payment for uniforms must be in full at time of ordering, and can be taken as cash or check. You can include payment in monthly dues also.
