For the month of June, before departing for my return to the Wudang Mountains with my teacher, I was asked to hold a few seminars at Integrity Martial Arts, in Orange City. We will be holding two seminars, two weekends in a row, and will focus on two different aspects of the Wudang Martial Culture.
Saturday, 06/12/2010
1:00PM ~ 3:00PM
Known for slow and gentle postures, Taijiquan is generally considered one of the highest forms of martial arts when it comes to skill and ability. This seminar will offer students of all levels some insight in Wudang's view of these classic arts.
This seminar will focus on the first section of the Wudang Sanfeng Pai 108-Movement Taijiquan Form, including form, posture discussion, theory, and application against both striking and grappling situations.
Also include in this seminar will be basic warm-ups, and the practice of Standing Meditation or Zhan Zhuang, used for strengthening a martial artist's core, and healing ailments of the body by building stronger connections in the joints and ligaments. Discussion at the end about Wudang, the practices of the mountains, and the current culture.
Wu-Tang Kung Fu (Wudang Gongfu)
Sunday, 06/20/2010
1:00PM ~ 3:00PM
Historical China has a history of brutal wars, and unruly bandits. For traveling Daoists monks and priests, the road was dangerous. Therefore, a unique blend of defensive martial arts was developed to help protect the monks on their journeys. These arts eventually grew into their overall practice, and were connected with a Daoist's search for clarity in a turbid world.
Offered in this seminar will be a foundation in an energetic and powerful form, Fuhuquan. Translated as "Tiger Taming Fist," this form has also been dubbed as the "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" form. This skill is both fluid and powerful, utilizing aggressive footwork with rapid hands. Students of all levels are welcome to join in this seminar and experience a bit of the Wudang martial arts.
As an addition, the seminar will include basic warm-ups, Wudang kicking drills, and applications and drilling for all techniques covered in the seminar. Discussion of Wudang, the martial arts, and Daoism's relationship to the martial arts will wrap the session.
Each seminars are $15.00 per participant. Come to both for $25.00. RSVP requested, but not required. Come in loose-fitting training clothes, and flat-sole shoes if possible.
