7. Rooting in Turning Method.
Single Step DM:
Keep back knee turned out and bent.
Step wide and turn to the corner before shifting forward.
Connect the stepping so it ends with the striking.
Keep the defending hand in front of the body (not at the hip).
Keep arms in tight and do not extend the arm when striking.
Sink the way for power.
Time breathing smoothly with strike expansion.
Turning the Circle:
Do not stress about circle size yet.
Place an object in the center and stay focused at staying a constant distance from it with each step.
Open arms so your neck is not twisted, and your upper body is facing the center object.
Do not break the shoulder joints.
Think with each step; there is no rush!
Feel the step sinking into the earth. Do not allow momentum to carry the body.
Sinking for Power:
Think expanding between the opponent and the earth.
Do not dwell on force.
Time the breath as you practice slowly.
Consider the idea of jumping while pressing on a ceiling.
Do not stick butt out but instead shoot the weight down into the ankles.
Use the Standing Post for rooting
Use pressing on a wall for sinking power development.
Rooting in Turning:
Weight in back = Just stepped
Weight in front = About to step
Weight transfers slowly between the two.
When ready, step and repeat.
-----
Think of your feet as being two corners of an triangle. The direction of your upper body and arms should be the RIGHT ANGLE of the triangle.
Do not Torque the knees.
Check your knees with every step before stepping again!
